Jane Quinn Presents at a National Education Association Convening in Austin, Texas

Austin, TX – On February 13, National Center for Community Schools (NCSS) Director Jane Quinn presented at a convening on community schools in Austin, TX, co-sponsored by National Education Association (NEA) Teacher Quality and their Center for Organizing. In the “Sustaining and Evaluating Community Schools” convening session, Quinn provided an introduction to The Finance Project’s Eight Point Plan for Sustainability and introduced a strategic planning and evaluation process that includes a self-assessment tool. The NEA  is committed to advancing the cause of public education and is comprised of three million members that work at every level of education.  NEA has embraced community schools as a feasible way for improving public education since 2009.

NCCS was invited to present by Sonia Jasso Yilmaz, NEA senior policy analyst, who attended one of NCCS signature conferences, last year. This is what she wrote about the experience: “The two-day ‘Community Schools Fundamentals Conference’ is an incredibly rich resource for obtaining and/or refining a solid understanding of the transformative power of the community schools strategy. I highly recommend attending the conference as a team to strategically cover the content of a variety of dynamic sessions, obtain valuable resource materials, to each visit a different exemplary community school, and to amplify your networking opportunities with like-minded professionals and leaders from across the country. An eleven out of ten experience!”
