Children’s Aid Works Behind the Scenes in David Kirp’s Recent New York Times Article on Community Schools

Tulsa, OK – In a New York Times opinion piece on Sunday April 2, University of California/Berkeley Professor David Kirp assesses the results of “what ordinary public schools can do,” citing the long-term outcomes in the Union, OK school district that has focused on rigorous instruction, a district-wide STEM initiative and—since 2004—implementation of the community schools strategy.  Through our relationship with the Tulsa Area Community School Initiative, NCCS has provided assistance to the community schools implementation work in both the Tulsa and Union public school districts.  Professor Kirp also references the Union schools’ use of an evidence-based pregnancy-prevention program, also affiliated with Children’s Aid (and developed by Dr. Michael Carrera).
