A Visit with Christopher Caruso, Executive Director of the Office of Community Schools

New York, NY – Christopher Caruso, Executive Director of the Office of Community Schools at the New York City Department of Education, recently made an impromptu “site visit” to P.S. 8, the Children’s Aid Society Community School where he served as Program Director in 1999 and 2000, before being promoted to Community Schools Budget Director for the agency.  Since that time, Chris has worked at two other city agencies (Human Resources Administration and Department of Youth and Community Development) and two other non-profit organizations before joining the Department of Education three years ago.  Chris is pictured here with P.S. 8’s Parent Coordinator, Carmen Natera, in “before” (circa 2000) and “after” (2017) photos.

He also shared with NCCS the following note sent to his P.S. 8 colleagues—including Principal Washington Hernandez, Community School Director Arnery Reyes, and Parent Coordinator Carmen Natera--after the visit:

"A quick note of thanks for welcoming me at my impromptu visit last week.  I very much appreciated the chance to see the team and talk to you all about the work happening at PS 8.  While I know (first hand) that your school has been a flagship Community School in NYC for a number of years, I am excited to work with you directly in the coming years."
