Jane Quinn Participates in Erie, PA’s Public Education Forum

Erie, PA – On March 23, NCCS Director Jane Quinn made a presentation on community schools to a standing-room-only audience of Erie, PA citizens concerned about public education.  The forum, which was sponsored by the Jefferson Educational Society of Erie, featured four speakers—Pennsylvania Secretary of Education Pedro A. Rivera, Erie Superintendent of Public School Jay Badams, United Way of Erie County President Bill Jackson, and Quinn.

The forum, entitled “The Future of Public Schools in Pennsylvania,” focused on opportunities and challenges in the current operating environment, which is characterized by persistent under-funding of public schools, particularly those in low-income communities.  Secretary Rivera, who partnered with NCCS during his recent tenure as superintendent of the Lancaster (PA) Public Schools, is a strong advocate at the state level for fiscal equity and funding adequacy.

The Erie Public Schools, in partnership with the United Way of Erie County, recently launched a five-site community schools initiative, with capacity-building assistance from NCCS.
