Flint Superintendent Receives Critical Acclaim

Flint, MI – After months of troubling news coming out of Flint as a result of its water crisis, this Michigan city received some positive press last week focused on its top school official, Superintendent Bilal Tawwab.  Chalkbeat Detroit wrote a compelling profile about Tawwab’s leadership during and in response to the water crisis, noting his uncanny ability to remain calm and focused amidst the storm.  NCCS has partnered for the past three years with the Flint district, providing strategic planning and implementation assistance around the district’s successful effort to go to scale with community schools.  As of this year, all Flint schools have full-time community school directors and are implementing the community schools strategy, in a robust partnership with the Crim Fitness Foundation (the lead agency in all of the schools) and other local collaborators.
